Center releases model comments on GINA

As recently reported in the GPPC newsletter, long-awaited federal regulations implementing the landmark Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008 are nearly complete, and will go into effect by the end of this year. 

Joan Scott Named Director of Hopkins' Genetics and Public Policy Center

Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics has named Joan Scott, deputy director of its Genetics and Public Policy Center (GPPC), to replace Kathy Hudson as director of the Center.  

Genetics and Public Policy Center receives funding for public consultation project

The Genetics and Public Policy Center today announced that it was awarded approximately $1.6 million by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) to study public attitudes about a possible large U.S. population-based study.

Pew funds Center's new consumer genetics project

The Pew Charitable Trust has awarded $750,000 to the Genetics and Public Policy Center for a new project focused on consumer protections for applications of genetic testing.

DOJ begins collecting DNA from federal arrestees and detained immigrants

DOJ maintains the use of DNA is a logical extension of traditional fingerprinting, stating that "collecting DNA samples at the time of arrest or at another early stage in the criminal justice process can prevent and deter subsequent criminal conduct..."

EGAPP releases new genetic testing recommendations

EGAPP investigated tests for tumor expression profiling in patients with breast cancer, UGT1A1 genotyping for metastatic colorectal cancer, and genetic testing for Lynch syndrome mutation in newly diagnosed colorectal cancer patients.
